On Sunday February 13th, 2011, the Seattle chapter held the second cultural club. Six members and their families together with a new member, Mara Leite, attended. We watched a Portuguese movie, while sampling Portuguese delicatessen. The movie ("Peixe-Lua", directed by Jose Alvaro Morais) tells the story of Maria Joao wedding. Maria Joao is the daughter of a veterinary with very high political ambitions and belongs to a family of traditional Bull Fighters ("Toureiros"). She is not completely convinced about her wedding, therefore decides to do a road trip and visit her brother. Maria Joao's brother lives in Cordova-Spain and helps her to remember old love memories. Side by side with the movie, we tasted meat loaf, garbanzo beans salad, rice pudding and egg-custard tarts. Additionally, we also started a chain of portuguese literacy exchange with a "Amalia Hoje" CD. We would like to thank those who participated, with special acknowledgements going to Mariza Costa-Cabral for hosting and Joao Gouveia and Suzete Serra for organizing the event.
