    Members of the PAPS-Washington DC chapter were cordially invited for a delightful dinner at the Portuguese Ambassador’s residency, here in Washington DC, on October 7th 2011.

   It was extremely gratifying having our Ambassador, Dr. Nuno Brito, hosting an exclusive comfortable Portuguese dinner with our group. We felt that PAPS, with its mission and value, is recognized and appreciated by our representatives.

  The importance of having a closer and stronger relationship with our Embassy lies on the members’ desire to be informed on Portuguese news, events and people that might improve our lives while living in the US. There is a professional, cultural and personal motivation on learning about our community, improving a network of contacts that can benefit both parts: PAPS members can learn about US industries or investment partners with Portugal, professional opportunities, cultural events and other Portuguese people; the Embassy can become aware of the Portuguese people and their influence in their US community. We can only see advantages from all.

A world power in the 1600's, actively engaged from South America to Africa, India and East Asia, modern Portugal has inherited a global outlook and an identity which is both European and Atlanticist. It is a founding member of NATO, a member of the European Union, an active partner of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), a member of the Ibero-American Community and a close neighbor and partner in promoting reform in North Africa and the Middle East.  Portugal currently holds a seat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. At present, Portugal faces major challenges - both at the European level, and as a close ally of the United States in facing today's numerous global challenges.
