June 19, 2011, will be a special day in New York. For the first time Portugal Day NY will take place in Central Park. The event's main objective is to promote Portuguese culture, tourism, brands and products, and is targeted not only to the American public but also to all foreigners who live in or visit New York during that time of year. Several Portuguese entities will be present, contributing to a better understanding of the best that Portugal has to offer.
Having the famous Central Park in New York as a background, the event will consist of a 5 mile race for adults (8Km), and kids' races for runners ages 2 to 12. There will also be a festival with Portuguese music, products and food. It is expected that more than 7,000 of runners will take part in the event. The runners will be competing for trips, hotel stays and entries to running events in Portugal.
The event is an initiative of the Portuguese Circle, a group of Portuguese residing in New York City, who, in partnership with New York Road Runners, the entity that organizes many running events taking place in New York City, are combining efforts to make the Portugal Day NY a reality.
This initiative would not be possible without the support of the main sponsors: Turismo de Portugal, Banco BiG, EDP, Cafés Delta, Cisa Trading and Cofaco / Atum Bom Petisco. In addition, the following entities are also sponsoring the event: TAP Air Portugal, Queijos Braz, Best Chocolate Cake in the World, Agência Abreu, Hotéis Alexandre de Almeida, Hotéis Altis, Vila Galé, Hotéis Real, Hotel H2O, and Gracie's Gear and Training. The image partner for the event is Ivity Corp. In the next few months additional supporters and partnerships will be announced.
