What brought you to the USA?
Graduate School.

In what are you currently working on?
I am currently working on an art project to be exhibited in Lisbon, at the PLMJ Foundation in October. It consists on a series of drawings, a website (www.nequim.com) and possibly a book. I am also teaching at the New School and at Pace University in New York.

What conditions do you have here that you do not have in Portugal?
After 13 years, the professional and personal aspects of my life are centred in the United States. The Arts’ millieu in Portugal is for insiders, and, in a way, it is a blessing to remain independent from the local politics and interest groups. I will continue to make art projects in Portugal, and aimed at the Portuguese context, whenever an opportunity to collaborate with credited individuals and institutions arises.

What are your future plans?
After the project in Lisbon is completed I will focus on a new exhibition in New York and enjoy my newborn daughter.

Why did you join PAPS?
Friends in Boston told me to, back in 1997.
