What brought you to the USA?
To pursue my Ph.D. at the University of Chicago.

In what are you currently working on?
Some of my research work has to do with studying the effects of firm entry on market structure. Specifically, I investigate how firms' interactions affect the composition of geographically concentrated groups of retailers (i.e. clusters). One of my current empirical applications focuses on the Shopping Center Industry.

What conditions do you have here that you do not have in Portugal?
Ability to work with top academics in my research area and to learn something new from them everyday. Also, here I have abundant resources to do research (data, conferences, etc.).

What are your future plans?
I would be very happy to continue doing what I'm doing right now.

Why did you join PAPS?
PAPS decided to have their 2005 annual meeting in Chicago were I was living at the time and I helped a little with the local logistics. After attending the meeting I got to know more about PAPS and to understand how important its contribution is to the lives of Portuguese students in the USA.
