Este ano no fórum da PAPS comemoramos algo especial: o 10° aniversário da PAPS!
Em 10 anos a PAPS deixou de ser apenas um elo que liga os Portugueses que estudam nos EUA e passou a ser uma associação reconhecida por entidades públicas e privadas pelo impacto dos seus membros e pelos laços que mantêm com Portugal.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation - Grand Challenges Explorations

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced that beginning March 31, 2008, it will accept grant proposals for the first funding round of Grand Challenges Explorations, a new US$100 million initiative to help scientists across the globe pursue ideas that have never before been tested for solving major health problems. The four topics for the first funding round were also announced.
Initial grants through the Explorations initiative will be $100,000 each, and projects showing success will have the opportunity to receive additional funding of $1 million or more.

MIT Portugal Program applications open

The MIT Portugal Program announces its call for applications for the 2008-09 academic year. Each program is offered in association by a consortium of Portuguese universities, with the participation of MIT
faculty.

Applications are open in four Engineering Systems fields:
EDAM-Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing, Transportation Systems, Sustainable Energy Systems and Bio-Engineering Systems. Formal candidacy materials and the online application are available online.

Novo site PAPS

Bem vindos ao novo website da PAPS.

Para além de um visual remodelado, o novo site inclui informação sobre os grupos locais, eventos passados e futuros, oportunidades de emprego, forum, noticias e a newsletter mensal com o retrato de um dos membros da PAPS.

Para já estas são as funcionalidades que estão disponíveis no novo site mas a plataforma sob a qual este está construído vai permitir-nos lançar mais novidades em breve, como mailing lists temáticas e uma área de partilha de informação entre os membros e dicas de sobrevivência nos EUA (como tirar a carta de condução, tratar dos impostos, comprar comida portuguesa, ...).

Para terminar, é importante mencionar que o site ainda está a ser testado. Ele foi construído pelo Vasco Pedro com o apoio da restante comissão executiva e tem sido um projecto intenso. Se encontrarem algo fora do sítio ou tiverem alguma sugestão não hesitem em contactar-nos. Toda a ajuda é bem vinda!
